Honda Motor extends sales upswing for third straight month; Nissan brand deliveries slide

Honda Motor Co.'s China sales surged for the third consecutive month in May as Nissan brandí»s deliveries tumbled again.

During the month, Honda delivered 136,486 Honda and Acura vehicles, a jump of 37 percent year on year, Hondaí»s China office said. 

The new-generation Accord sedan led the increase with 18,252 deliveries. 

Five other models -- the Civic, Crider and Fit cars and CR-V and XR-V crossovers -- each generated sales of more than 10,000.

Through May, sales of Honda and Acura vehicles totaled 597,027, a 19 percent increase from a year earlier. 

By contrast, Nissan Motor Co. delivered 121,895 Nissan brand vehicles last month, a 4.8 percent dip from a year earlier. 

It was the second consecutive month the brandí»s sales declined. 

For the first five months, Nissan brandí»s sales slid 0.4 percent to 587,197.

Nissan didní»t disclose monthly sales of its Infiniti luxury brand in China.
