Volkswagen Group's sales in China, its largest market, dropped for the eighth consecutive month in March, falling 9.4 percent to 324,900.

The German auto giantĄŻs sales continue to be dragged down by the VW and Skoda brands.

VW brand deliveries dropped 9.9 percent to 242,900 while Skoda sales plunged 27 percent to 20,500.

Audi maintained growth, with sales edging up 2.3 percent to 55,250, as demand for luxury vehicles stayed strong despite a contraction in overall new-vehicle demand.

VW didnĄŻt disclose local sales of other brands for March.

Through March, VWĄŻs group-wide deliveries in China decreased 6.3 percent to 946,600.

During the first quarter, VW brand sales dipped 6.9 percent to 703,400 while Skoda deliveries shrank 19 percent to 64,300.

Audi sales rose 3.3 percent to 159,300.

Despite the decline, VW has strengthened its position as the largest automaker in China this year.

In the first quarter, local sales at General Motors, the second-largest vehicle manufacturer in the market, slumped 17 percent to 813,973.
