Sales at Beijing Hyundai Motor Co., Hyundai Motor Co.¡¯s joint venture with BAIC Motor Group Co., jumped 47 percent to 110,316 in January.

It was the joint venture¡¯s best monthly sales tally since January 2017, Beijing Hyundai said.

The sales surge was led by the Hyundai La Festa and six-generation Elantra, known as the Lingdong in China.

La Festa deliveries topped 10,000 in January. It went on sale in October.  Lingdong sales soared 84 percent to exceed 24,000.

Beijing Hyundai will introduce three redesigned gasoline-powered crossovers and three electrified vehicles this year.

The three redesigned crossovers include the fifth-generation Hyundai Tucson, which will be launched in March.

The three electrified vehicles include the Encino crossover, the first full electric vehicle to be launched in China under the Hyundai brand. The Hyundai Encino will have a range of 450 kilometers on one charge, according to Beijing Hyundai.

Details about the other redesigned and electrified Hyundai vehicles planned for China were not released.

Beijing Hyundai, a 50-50 partnership between BAIC and Hyundai, is the only company that produces passenger vehicles for the Hyundai brand in China.

In 2018, the company¡¯s sales edged up 0.7 percent to roughly 790,000 vehicles.
