Borgward Group, a German carmaker revived by Chinese investment, appointed Philip Koehn, former director of engineering at Rolls-Royce, chief technology officer.

Koehn will oversee Borgward¡¯s r&d centers in Beijing, Stuttgart and Silicon Valley and report to President Yang Song, the company said.

Koehn, 48, was Rolls-Royce¡¯s engineering chief since 2013. In 1999, he joined BMW Group which owns Rolls-Royce and stayed with the German luxury maker until recently.

Borgward, once Germany's third-largest automaker, was forced into liquidation in 1961. China¡¯s Beiqi Foton Motor Co. acquired the rights to the Borgward brand in 2014. Foton is a truck subsidiary of state-owned Chinese automaker BAIC Group Corp.

Borgward has developed two gasoline-powered crossovers, the BX7 and BX5. The vehicles are assembled at Foton's renovated auto plant in Miyun, a suburb of Beijing.
