Renesas to supply computer chips to Great Wall

TOKYO -- Japanese supplier Renesas Electronics Corp. will provide a wide range of computer chips for Great Wall Motor Co.'s electric vehicles and autonomous driving cars.|
Under the agreement the two companies signed last week, Renesas will supply Great Wall with components for EVs, plug-in hybrids and self-driving vehicles.
Renesas also said it will provide connectivity and infotainment systems for Great Wall's vehicles.
The company did not provide additional details about the deal with Great Wall.
Renesas, which is based in Tokyo, is one of the world's largest producers of semiconductors.
Last week, Great Wall launched sales of a compact EV sedan, its first electric vehicle, at a starting price of 139,800 yuan ($20,300). It is powered by lithium ion batteries and has a range of 200 kilometers.
Great Wall, based in the north China city of Baoding, is the country's largest manufacturer of crossovers and SUVs.
In the first four months, Great Wall's China vehicle sales rose 4.6 percent year on year to 327,330, with 87 percent of those deliveries crossovers and SUVs.
