Brose to invest 300 million euros in China over next 3 years
Automotive News China | 2019/5/21

Brose Group plans to invest more than 300 million euros (2.3 billion yuan) for new products and technical equipment in China over the next three years.

The capital outlays, disclosed at the Shanghai auto show last month, account for 20 percent of the total investment the German supplier will make globally over the next few years.

With the shift to vehicle electrification and autonomous driving, Brose displayed several products it looks to introduce in China at the show.

One is a power seat developed in China, which can be used for various vehicle platforms from different carmakers, with minimal adjustments. The seat will be first used by a major Chinese carmaker in conventional and new energy vehicles, Brose said, without identifying the customer.

The company also showed a modular motor developed with standardized components. The motor can be applied in conventional, hybrid and EVs.

Brose also demonstrated how vehicle interiors can be dynamically adapted to different driving situations. For example, front seats can be rotated 180 degrees to allow four passengers to have face-to-face meetings.

With demand for comfort features is expected to rise as autonomous driving and car sharing take hold, Brose exhibited a power side door drive system which opens and closes under the control of a smartphone or hand gestures, and an algorithm-driven seat vibration and massage function.

Brose operates 12 plants and employs some 4,400 people in China. In 2018, the revenue it generated in China totaled 1.2 billion euros, representing 19 percent of global sales.
