Dongfeng-Nissan exec hired to lead Ford brand's sales in Greater China

Ford Motor Co. has tapped Liu Zongxin, a former sales executive at Nissan's car joint venture, as vice president of Ford brand's sales and marketing in the Greater China region, a newly created position.

The appointment became effective last month, Ford China said.

Liu, 56, is a Taiwan native. He was head of the sales division at Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Co. from 2015 to 2018. 

Before joining Dongfeng Nissan, Liu was with Ford for 27 years including stints at each of the U.S. automakerí»s two joint ventures with Changan Automobile Co. in China: He was deputy sales chief of Changan Ford Automobile Co. from 2012 to 2015, and vice general manager at Jiangling Motors Corp. from 2009 to 2011.

Changan Ford builds and markets Ford brand sedans and crossovers, while Jiangling Motors produces and distributes trucks for Ford and JMC brands.

Fordí»s China sales have been falling since 2017. In the first quarter, its local deliveries contracted 36 percent year on year to 136,279. Last year, the total plunged 37 percent to 752,243.

To reinvigorate the sales, Ford plans to introduce more than 30 new and improved models in China over the next three years.
