Volvo sales pick up on demand for locally built models
Automotive News China | 2019/5/7

Volvo Car Corp.¡¯s China deliveries are gathering steam, jumping nearly 17 percent to 12,192 in April.

The latest growth was achieved behind strong demand for the locally assembled XC60 compact crossover and the S90 full-size sedan, Volvo said, without revealing sales by model.

In the first four months, Volvo¡¯s China sales totaled 42,078, an increase of 7.3 percent from the same period last year.

At the Shanghai auto show, Volvo launched sales of the XC40 compact crossover with a starting price of 265,000 yuan ($39,376).

The vehicle is produced at Geely Automobile Holdings¡¯ Luqiao plant in east China¡¯s Zhejiang province.

The XC40 is Volvo¡¯s fourth locally produced model in China, following the XC60, S90 and the S60 compact car.

The XC60 and the S60 are built at Volvo¡¯s plant in the south China city of Chengdu, while the S90 is assembled at the Swedish carmakers¡¯ factory in the northeast China city of Daqing.

Volvo and Geely Auto are both owned by private Chinese company Zhejiang Geely Holdings Group.
