FCA replaces China sales chief amid slump
Automotive News China | 2019/5/3

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has replaced its China sales head amid a decline in local deliveries.

Massimiliano Trantini has been named president of the sales unit at FCAs joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., effective Monday, April 29, FCA said.

He replaces Daphne Zheng, who left FCA after having been president of the sales unit since 2015.

Trantini was FCAs director of China business. Before that, he was CEO at a transmission plant jointly owned by FCA and GAC in China.

FCAs main products in China are the four Jeep SUV nameplates assembled at its partnership with GAC: the Cherokee, Renegade, Compass and Grand Commander.

FCAs China sales were hit hard by the market contraction that started in July.

In the first quarter of this year, FCA delivered 21,706 vehicles in China, plunging 41 percent from the same period last year, according to GAC.

In 2018, its local sales slumped 39 percent year on year to 125,181.
