Honda to launch EV sales this year
Automotive News China | 2019/4/23

Honda Motor Co. is set to launch sales of its first two full electric vehicles in China this year to comply with government rules requiring carmakers to expand EV output.

One of the EVs will be a production version of the X-NV concept crossover introduced at the Shanghai auto show, Honda said.

The electric crossover, produced at Honda¡¯s partnership with Dongfeng Motor Group, will hit the market in the second half of this year, Honda said.

It will be the first EV to be distributed under the Honda brand.

The other planned EV is the VE-1 compact sedan.

Developed by Honda's joint venture with GAC Motor Co., the VE-1 will go on sale in the third quarter under the joint venture¡¯s proprietary brand Everus.

The two EV models were both developed for the Chinese market.

Honda aims to roll out locally produced plug-in hybrid models in 2020 in China as part of plans to introduce more than 20 electrified models in the market by 2025.

Honda delivered some 1.43 million gasoline and hybrid vehicles in China in 2018, virtually unchanged from a year earlier.
