GM's 2 joint ventures see sales decline again
Automotive News China | 2019/4/12

General Motors sales slump in China continued last month as its two joint ventures suffered steep volume declines.

Deliveries at SAIC-GM, GMs passenger vehicle partnership with SAIC Motor Corp., dropped for the ninth straight month, contracting 10 percent to 149,254 in March, according to Shanghai-listed SAIC Motor.

SAIC-GM produces and markets Cadillac, Buick and Chevrolet cars and light trucks.

Sales at SAIC-GM-Wuling, GMs light-vehicle joint venture with SAIC, fell for the eighth consecutive month, slumping 23 percent to 170,000 in March.

SAIC-GM-Wuling builds and distributes cars for the entry-level Baojun brand and minibuses for the Wuling marque.

For the first three months, sales at SAIC-GM dropped 13 percent to 426,928 while deliveries at SAIC-GM-Wuling plunged 25 percent to 429,012.

GM, which releases sales figures for China quarterly, hasnt yet disclosed its first-quarter sales in the market.

GM plans to introduce more than 20 new and revamped vehicles in China this year to revive local sales. Half of the vehicles will be new nameplates, the company said in February.
