Volvo opens headquarters for Asia Pacific in Shanghai
Automotive News China | 2019/3/22

Volvo Car Corp. opened a new headquarters for Asia Pacific in Shanghai intended to enhance the Swedish brand¡¯s operations in the region.

The research, engineering, design and administrative hub will strengthen its capability to ensure sustainable business growth in Asia Pacific, with China as the core market, Volvo said.

The complex is located in Shanghai¡¯s suburban Jiading district. Covering a ground area of 200,000 square meters (2,152,800 square feet), it mainly houses automotive r&d and design studios for Asia Pacific.

Volvo was acquired by private Chinese carmaker Zhejiang Geely Holdings Group in 2010 from Ford Motor Co.

China is Volvo¡¯s largest market globally. In the first two months, the Swedish brand delivered 18,473 cars and light trucks in China, an increase of 2.2 percent from the same period last year.

In 2018, Volvo¡¯s China sales advanced 14 percent to 130,593.

Volvo assembles the S60 sedan, XC60 crossover and S90 large sedan in China. The locally built XC40 will go on sale in the first half, Volvo said.
