Dealership stockpiles ease in January
Automotive News China | 2019/2/22

The average new-vehicle inventory at dealerships in China dropped to a 42-day supply last month from 52 days in December, according to the China Automobile Dealers Association.

That came after automakers refrained from shipping more cars and light trucks to dealerships given the market¡¯s extended downturn, the trade group said.

Dealers marketing domestically produced and imported vehicles all reported significant decreases in January stockpiles.

Last month, the backlog at dealerships stocking domestically produced foreign mass-market brands dropped to below 41 days from 51 days a month earlier.

Stores marketing luxury brands and imported foreign brands carried a 36-day supply, down from 45 days in December.

Stockpiles at dealerships under domestic Chinese brands also declined to 50 days from 60 days in the previous month.

In January, only three brands had dealerships carrying more than two months¡¯ supply of light vehicles, down from nine brands in December.

The three brands are Venucia -- the proprietary brand of Nissan Motor Co.¡¯s joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Group, SAIC Motor Corp.¡¯s Roewe and Zotye Automobile¡¯s Zotye.
