Honda sales rise; Mazda slump rolls into 2019
Automotive News China | 2019/2/5

Honda Motor Co.¡¯s China sales resumed growing in January after a flat 2018 but Mazda Motor Corp.¡¯s deliveries remain stuck in a downward dip.

Honda delivered 136,483 vehicles in China last month, a gain of 8.2 percent from a year earlier, according to the Japanese company¡¯s China office.

The increase was achieved on demand for the Accord and Civic sedans as well as the CR-V crossover.

Accord sales jumped 25 percent to 13,649 while Civic deliveries surged 46 percent to 19,283. CR-V volume advanced 14 percent to 15,711.

By contrast, Mazda¡¯s China sales tumbled 33 percent to 22,844 in January.

Other Japanese brands haven¡¯t disclosed January sales results.

In 2018, Honda delivered 1.43 million vehicles in China, virtually unchanged from a year earlier. Mazda¡¯s local sales slumped 12 percent to 272,322.
