Dealership stockpiles slip as sales pick up at year end
Automotive News China | 2019/1/22

The average new-vehicle inventory at dealerships fell to a 52-day supply in December from 58 days the previous month, the China Automobile Dealers Association reported.

The trade group attributed the decrease to strong light-vehicle purchases that typically appear at the end of a year.

Stockpiles at dealerships under domestic Chinese brands dropped to 60 days from 73 days in November.

Stores marketing domestically produced foreign mass-market brands saw inventories decline to 51 days from 55 days a month earlier.

The backlog carried by dealerships stocking luxury brands and imported foreign brands eased to 45 days from 46 days in November.

Despite the decline in inventories, the average backlog of unsold vehicles at dealerships in China last month remained well above the normal range of 24-36 days.
