The average backlog of unsold vehicles at dealerships in China rose to 58 days in November from 56 days in September, as new car and light-truck demand continued to lose steam.
Higher inventories are noticeably pressuring stores selling vehicles under mass-market brands, according to the China Automobile Dealers Association.
Last month, dealerships that marketed domestic Chinese brands were burdened with a 73-day supply, up from 70 days in October.
Inventories at stores distributing domestically built, foreign mass-market vehicles topped 55 days, versus 54 days a month earlier.
Only dealerships selling luxury and imported vehicles reported slightly lower stockpiles last month: a 46-day supply compared to 47 days in October.
In November, Dongfeng Peugeot dealerships reported the highest inventories at 114 days, according to the association. They were followed by stores under Dongfeng Renault and domestic Chinese carmaker Chery Automobile, which posted a backlog of 108 days.
Dongfeng Peugeot and Dongfeng Renault are Dongfeng Motor Group¡¯s production joint ventures with PSA Peugeot Citroen and Renault SA.
