Pininfarina, behind surge in clients, expanding China design team
Automotive News China | 2018/11/30

Italian automotive design house Pininfarina plans to increase the number of employees in China to 80 next year from 50 as it continues to win business from local automakers.

The number of auto design clients the company has landed in China has doubled in the past two years, Pininfarina said.

As a result, while third-quarter revenue generated in China surged 76 percent from a year earlier, operating profit quadrupled during the period, it added.

Pininfarina operates a studio in Shanghai to assist Chinese automakers with the design of concept cars. Local clients include traditional Chinese carmakers such as Chery Automobile Co., Changan Automobile Co., GAC Motor Co., Jianghuai Automobile Co. and Southeast Motor Co., as well as electric vehicle startups such as Hybrid Kinetic Group.
