Kia venture starts exports to boost sales, factory output
Automotive News China | 2018/11/23

Dongfeng Yueda Kia, a Chinese joint venture between Dongfeng Motor Group and Kia Motors, launched exports to emerging markets as part of efforts to boost sales and factory capacity.

The first batch of vehicles, 400 Kia-badged Pegas compact cars, were loaded onto an ocean liner bound for Egypt on Tuesday at a port in the east China city of Yancheng.

Dongfeng Kia is targeting more than 30 countries in North Africa, Southeast Asia, Central and South America, and the Middle East for exports, the company said.

The joint venture aims to increase annual exports to 20,000 in 2019 from 2,000 this year.

Dongfeng Yueda Kia, based in Yancheng, is a three-way joint venture between Kia, Dongfeng Motor and local investment company Jiangsu Yueda Investment Co.
The companyí»s sales rose 9.1 percent to 278,382 in the first ten months of the year, according to the China Passenger Car Alliance, a Shanghai-based consultancy.

Dongfeng Yueda Kia is still operating well below manufacturing capacity. It operates three assembly plants in Yancheng that can produce up to 900,000 vehicles a year.
