Lynk & CO's first sedan, the 03 compact, goes on sale
Automotive News China | 2018/10/23

Lynk & CO, a brand jointly owned by Volvo Car Corp. and its Chinese parent, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, has launched sales of its first sedan, the 03 compact.

The car, Lynk & CO¡¯s third product, is priced from 116,800 to 151,800 yuan ($16,874 to $21,931).

The 03 is 4,639 mm (182.6 inches) long, 1,840 mm (72.4 inches) wide and 1,460 mm (57.5 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,730 mm (107.5 inches). Sales began last week.

Like the brand¡¯s first two nameplates -- the 01 and 02 compact crossovers -- the 03 shares the Compact Modular Architecture platform with the Volvo XC40.

It is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine combined with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The engine and the transmission were jointly developed by Volvo and Geely.

The 03 is produced at Geely¡¯s assembly plant in Zhangjiakou in north China¡¯s Hebei province.

In 2016, Geely unveiled Lynk & CO as its premium brand.

In July 2017, Volvo, which was acquired by Geely in 2010, was granted a 30 percent stake in Lynk & CO. In return, Lynk & CO will gain access to Volvo¡¯s newest modular platform -- dubbed Scalable Product Architecture -- for midsize and large vehicles.

Lynk & CO launched sales of the first product, the 01, in November 2016. The 02 went on sale in June this year while the 01¡¯s plug-in hybrid version hit the market in July.

For the first eight months, Lynk & CO delivered 87,101 vehicles in China.

Geely and Volvo combined plan to roll out 10 models for Lynk & CO by 2020.

While Lynk & CO sells vehicles only in China, the brand plans to go global.

The 01 plug-in hybrid is to be assembled at Volvo Car Corp.¡¯s plant in Ghent, Belgium, in 2019 and go on sale in Europe later in the year.

In April at the Beijing auto show, Volvo Car CEO Hakan Samuelsson told  Automotive News China  that Volvo is also considering producing and distributing Lynk & CO¡¯s products in the United States.

But the decision has yet to be made, Samuelsson said. ¡°We can really make Lynk & CO a global brand because we can support that in production as well as spare parts and services,¡± he noted.
