Didi launches ride-hailing services in Osaka, Japan
Automotive News China | 2018/10/5

Didi Chuxing is offering taxi-hailing services in Osaka, Japan, marking the Chinese ride-hailing giants entry into the country.

The services, which began last week, are provided by Didi Mobility Japan, a joint venture between Didi and Japanese investment company SoftBank Corp.

The services are available for taxicabs in Osaka and its southwest suburb including the Kansai International Airport.

More than 10 local taxi companies will use its artificial intelligence-powered online fleet management and dispatch system, Didi said.

Didi Mobility Japan soon plans to expand its taxi-hailing services to other major Japanese cities including Kyoto, Fukuoka and Tokyo.

Japan is the third foreign country in which Didi has launched ride-hailing services for taxis and riders under its proprietary brand. This year it began offering the services in Mexico and Australia.

In China, where it is the largest ride-hailing service provider, Didi is still being inspected by government regulators after a second user of its carpooling service allegedly was murdered by a driver this year.
