Ford's EV partner Zotye lures away MG's design chief
Automotive News China | 2018/9/21

Ford Motor Co.¡¯s electric vehicle joint venture partner Anhui Zotye Automobile Co. has hired veteran car designer Anthony Williams-Kenny from SAIC Motor Corp.

Williams-Kenny will lead styling and design for Zotye¡¯s future product line, the Chinese automaker said.

Williams-Kenny previously was director of SAIC¡¯s European design center in Longbridge, England, and global design director for MG.

He started his auto design career in 1998 in Mitsubishi Motors Co.¡¯s European design center in Germany. He joined U.K. carmaker MG Rover two years later.

Williams-Kenny was recruited by SAIC in 2005 as design chief for the state-owned Chinese automaker¡¯s Roewe car brand.

In 2010, he was made global design director for MG after SAIC acquired the iconic U.K. car brand.

Zotye, a private Chinese light-vehicle manufacturer headquartered in the east China city of Jinhua, signed a deal with Ford in November to form a 5 billion yuan ($730 million) joint venture in Jinhua. That venture, due to begin production in September 2019, can build up to 100,000 EVs annually at full capacity.
