Volvo sales advance again behind robust XC60, S90 demand
Automotive News China | 2018/9/7

Volvo Car Corp.¡¯s sales in China remained robust in August, rising more than 18 percent year on year to 11,386 vehicles on demand for two locally produced models -- the XC60 midsize crossover and the S90 large sedan -- the Swedish carmaker said, without revealing sales of the two products.

Through August, Volvo¡¯s China sales rose more than 17 percent to 82,987.

Volvo also builds the S60 compact sedan in China and plans to start producing the XC40 compact crossover locally in 2019. The XC40 is now sold in China through imports.

Next year, Volvo will also begin assembling vehicles for its Polestar high-performance electrified vehicle brand at a plant it is constructing in the southwest China city of Chengdu with its Chinese parent, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. The factory¡¯s first product will be Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid.

Also next year, Volvo will launch production of the first model for Geely¡¯s premium Lynk & CO brand in Europe. The vehicle is the plug-in version of the Lynk & CO compact crossover, which shares a platform with the Volvo XC40. The vehicle will be built in Ghent, Belgium, and go on sale in Europe next year.
