Sales at PSA joint venture fall after 6-month rebound
Automotive News China | 2018/8/17

Sales at Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen, PSA Peugeot Citroen¡¯s China partnership with Dongfeng Motor Group, plunged in July after a brief first-half recovery.

The joint venture, which builds and markets Peugeot and Citroen vehicles, had its China deliveries plummet 38 percent to 13,189 last month, according to Dongfeng.

The steep decline largely reflects weaker demand for the Peugeot 5008 SUV and the Citroen C5 Aircross compact crossover that the joint venture launched last year.

Along with an industrywide contraction in crossover and SUV demand last month, sales of the Peugeot 5008 and Citroen C5 Aircross shrank to 1,407 and 1,688, respectively, in July, according to the China Passenger Car Alliance, a Shanghai-based consultancy.

Behind volumes generated by the two new models, Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen¡¯s deliveries rose 6.7 percent to 157,749 in the first six months.

Through July, the partnership¡¯s sales edged up 1.2 percent to 170,938, according to Dongfeng.

Sales at Changan PSA Peugeot Citroen, PSA¡¯s joint venture with Changan Automobile Co. which produces and distributes Citroen DS models, have thinned to a trickle.

In July, Changan PSA¡¯s deliveries fell 34 percent from a year earlier to 173. For the first seven months, its sales slumped 35 percent year on year to 2,195, according to the China Passenger Car Alliance.
