Audi taps South American exec to steer China unit

BEIJING -- Volkswagen Group appointed its senior executive in South America, Thomas Owsianski, president of its luxury Audi brand in China. 

Owsianski, 51, joined Audi Chinaí»s management team on Aug. 1, VW Group said.

He previously was VW Groupí»s vice president for sales and marketing in Brazil as well as the VW brandí»s first executive vice president in South America.

Owsianski joined VW Group in 2012 as the Skoda brandí»s global marketing head. From 2014 to 2016, he served as executive director for sales and marketing for the Skoda brand in China.

Audií»s China president, Joachim Wedler, will retire in the fourth quarter.

China is Audií»s largest market globally. In the first half of the year, Audi delivered 306,590 vehicles in China, an increase of 20 percent from the same period last year.
