Jaguar Land Rover's China venture expands plant, starts E-Pace output
Automotive News China | 2018/6/29

Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Co. has finished expanding its assembly plant in the east China city of Changshu and on Wednesday began building the Jaguar E-Pace compact crossover at the factory.

The plants expansion boosts its annual capacity to 200,000 vehicles from 130,000 and enables Jaguar Land Rover to build more models for Chinese customers.

Chery Jaguar Land Rover is a 50-50 joint venture between Chery Automobile Co. and Jaguar Land Rover.

The E-Pace is the fifth model Jaguar Land Rover has produced locally, following two crossovers -- the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport -- and two sedans -- the Jaguar XFL and Jaguar XEL.

Chery Jaguar Land Rover, incorporated in 2012, started production in 2014. In 2017, the joint venture opened an engine plant in Changshu to build a new Ingenium 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine for Jaguar and Land Rover models.

Jaguar Land Rover has maintained robust sales since 2017, thanks to strong local demand for luxury vehicles.

In the first five months, combined deliveries of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles in China rose 10 percent year on year to 60,799 vehicles. The number includes 35,580 locally produced vehicles.

Last year, sales of the two brands totaled 145,399, a jump of 23 percent from a year earlier. The tally includes 83,888 locally built vehicles.
