Powered by sedans, light-vehicle deliveries rise 7.9% in May
Automotive News China | 2018/6/12

Sales of new light vehicles in China increased 7.9 percent year on year to approach 1.9 million vehicles in May. For the first time in years, sedans replaced crossovers and SUVs to become the growth drivers, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

Sedan deliveries jumped 12 percent last month from a year earlier to roughly 940,100. By contrast, sales of crossovers and SUVs increased 6.5 percent to around 761,300.

Minibus deliveries edged up 1.7 percent to about 49,000, but multipurpose vehicle deliveries dropped 7.1 percent to about 139,100.

Through May, Chinas new light-vehicle sales rose 5.1 percent from a year earlier to 9.9 million.

In December, the association predicted annual new light-vehicle sales in China would grow 3 percent year on year to 25.6 million in 2018.
