Mercedes-Benz deliveries jump on demand for locally produced models
Automotive News China | 2018/5/11

Mercedes-Benz continued to outsell Audi in China last month with deliveries advancing 20 percent from a year earlier to 57,221 vehicles.

More than two-thirds of Mercedes-Benz¡¯s sales were generated by locally produced models, parent Daimler said.

Sales at Audi, China¡¯s largest luxury brand in 2017, rose 14 percent to 52,411 vehicles, according to the Volkswagen Group.

Through April, Mercedes-Benz¡¯s China sales totaled 227,153 vehicles, up 18 percent from the same period last year.

While surging 34 percent year on year, Audi¡¯s China deliveries during the first four months were lower at 206,681.

Last month, the elongated Mercedes-Benz A-Class made its global debut at the Beijing auto show. The compact sedan will go on sale in China in the second half of the year. It will become the sixth Mercedes-Benz model assembled at Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Daimler¡¯s passenger vehicle joint venture with BAIC Motor Group., following the A- and B-class, GLA and GLC.

The other major luxury brand in China, BMW, has yet to disclose sales results for April.
