Light-vehicle sales fall as New Year holiday dents demand
Automotive News China | 2018/3/13

Light-vehicle deliveries in China declined 9.6 percent to roughly 1,475,500 vehicles in February due to the Chinese New Year holiday.

Sales of crossovers and SUVs decreased 3.1 percent to around 651,300 vehicles, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

Other light-vehicle segments also posted lower sales tallies.

Sedan sales fell 12 percent to about 677,000, multi-purpose vehicle deliveries slumped 18 percent to 121,500 and microvan sales plunged 40 percent to 25,700.

The weeklong New Year holiday was observed from Feb. 15-21. Last year, it ran from Jan. 27-Feb. 2.

As a result, there were fewer working days this February than in the same month last year.

For the first two months, Chinas light vehicle sales rose 2.1 percent from a year earlier to approximately 3,931,700 vehicles.
