Ford sales slump continues
Automotive News China | 2018/3/13

Ford Motor Co.'s China deliveries continue to decline, falling 23 percent from a year earlier to 123,473 vehicles in the first two months of the year.

After dropping 18 percent year on year to 75,990 in January, the Dearborn companyí»s sales in China slumped 30 percent to 47,483 in February, partly because of the Chinese New Year holiday.

Leading the sales decline was Changan Ford Automobile Co., Fordí»s passenger vehicle joint venture. Changan Ford delivered 78,242 vehicles in the first two months, a drop of 28 percent from the same period last year.

Sales at Jiangling Motor Corp., Fordí»s commercial vehicle partnership, also fell 14 percent to 35,396 vehicles in the period.

Deliveries of imported Ford models plunged 31 percent to 2,176.

From January to February, only Lincoln, Fordí»s luxury brand, maintained stable sales, with volume edging up 1 percent from a year earlier to 7,659 vehicles.

In 2017, sales at Ford and its two joint ventures decreased 6.3 percent to 1,192,625 vehicles in China as demand weakened for locally built Ford-badged passenger vehicles.

Ford plans to roll out 50 new vehicles in China by 2025, including eight crossovers and SUVs, to revive sales.

To improve the efficiency of its China operations, the U.S. automaker is now integrating sales and marketing for Ford-badged vehicles under Changan Ford and Jingling Motor.
