Volvo deliveries continue rise on demand for locally built models
Automotive News China | 2018/3/9

Volvo Car Corp.'s sales growth in China continued in February with deliveries rising 11 percent year on year to 6,531.

The results were led by three locally assembled models: the XC60 compact crossover, S60 compact sedan and S90 midsize sedan, said Volvo, without revealing sales tallies of individual models.

There were fewer selling days last month than February 2017 because of the Lunar New Year.

The weeklong holiday was observed from Feb. 15-21. Last year, it ran from Jan. 27-Feb. 2.

In the first two months of this year, Volvos China sales jumped 27 percent from a year earlier to 18,068 vehicles.

Aside from the XC60, S60 and S90, Volvo also sells the XC Classic SUV in China. It is slated to launch sales of a fourth locally built model, the XC40 compact crossover, later this year.

The Swedish carmaker is constructing a separate assembly plant in the southwest China city of Chengdu to produce vehicles for Polestar, its new high-performance EV brand. The factory is slated to start production in mid-2019.
