Ford sales slump on weak car volume
Automotive News China | 2018/2/13

Ford Motor Co.'s China sales fell 18 percent from a year earlier to 75,990 vehicles in January. Volume was dragged down by Changan Ford Automobile Co., Fordí»s passenger vehicle joint venture.

Last month, Changan Ford, which makes Ford sedans and crossovers, delivered 46,888 vehicles, plunging 29 percent year on year.

Sales of imported Ford-badged models, most of which are performance vehicles such as the Ford Mustang and GT, tumbled 36 percent to 1,300.

By contrast, deliveries of Jiangling Motors Corp., Fordí»s commercial vehicle partnership, rose 13 percent to 22,794 vehicles last month.

Jiangling Motors builds three Ford nameplates -- the Everest SUV, Tourneo multipurpose vehicle and Transit van -- as well as JMC-badged SUVs, pickups, vans, and light and heavy trucks.

Lincolní»s sales increased 7 percent to 5,008 vehicles.

To reinvigorate sales, Ford announced in December a plan to roll out 50 new vehicles in China by 2025, including eight crossovers and SUVs as well as 15 electric vehicles for the Ford and Lincoln brands.
