Volvo deliveries hit high in 2017
Automotive News China | 2018/1/5

GOTHENBURG, Sweden -- Volvo Car Corp. said its China deliveries jumped 26 percent from a year earlier to a record 114,410 vehicles in 2017, as demand for locally produced models remained healthy.

The company achieved record sales despite a letdown in December, when sales declined 1 percent from a year earlier to 10,066 vehicles.

In a written statement, the company attributed its annual sales growth to the new XC60 crossover and the 90-series sedans.

The company also noted that it is preparing to introduce a line of electric vehicles, and it launched the Polestar subbrand, which will market high-performance EVs.

In November, Volvo broke ground for an assembly plant in Chengdu to produce vehicles for Polestar. The plant is expected to launch production in 2019.

Volvo is building that plant with the help of its corporate parent, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. Geely bought Volvo from Ford Motor Co. in 2010.
