BYD delivers 10 electric buses to Japan's Okinawa island
Automotive News China | 2017/12/5

BYD Co., China¡¯s largest electric vehicle maker, delivered 10 electric buses to the Japanese island Okinawa last week.

The buses will be used as shuttles at Okinawa¡¯s Naha port, BYD said.

It is the second time that BYD has shipped K9 electric buses to the Japanese market. In 2015, the company delivered 5 electric buses to the Japanese city of Kyoto.

The K9 is 12 meters long and 2.5 meters wide. It is powered by BYD's iron-phosphate batteries and has a range of 250 kilometers, with a maximum speed of 70 km per hour.

BYD assembles buses and other electric vehicles in China, California, Scotland and Brazil, and is building plants in Hungary, France and Ecuador.

For the first 10 months of 2017, the company¡¯s sales of plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles -- including buses -- totaled 80,919 vehicles.

BYD, based in the south China city of Shenzhen, is listed in Hong Kong and Shanghai. It is partly owned by U.S. billionaire Warren Buffett.
