Ford launches vehicle test center in Nanjing
Automotive News China | 2017/12/1

Ford Motor Co. opened a vehicle test center in the east China city of Nanjing to accelerate product introductions in Asian markets.

The 680 million yuan ($103 million) center is the company¡¯s first vehicle test facility in China. Together with an existing r&d site in Nanjing, the new center can fully evaluate new car and light trucks, Ford said.

The center will test next-generation models and homologated imports such as the Ford Explorer and Mustang.

Vehicles can be driven on 80 types of road surfaces at the center. It also features a 3-kilometer test track, an emissions lab, a vehicle dynamics area, a precision steering track and a squeak-and-rattle lab.

A new laboratory will also be built at the center for noise and vibration testing.

Ford needs to launch more new products in China to revive weak sales. In the first ten months, the U.S. automaker¡¯s China sales declined 5 percent year on year to 938,570 vehicles.
