Mazda deliveries dip in September on model changeover
Automotive News China | 2017/10/24

Mazda Motor Corp.'s deliveries in China fell 1.2 percent from a year earlier to 29,382 vehicles in September, ending a year's worth of strong monthly sales growth.

The Japanese automaker¡¯s China operations blamed the weak performance last month on model changeovers.

For the first nine months, Mazda sales rose 11 percent to 213,566 vehicles, thanks to strong volume early in the year.

To revive momentum, the Japanese brand recently launched the redesigned Mazda CX-5 compact crossover in China.

Mazda¡¯s China office said the company will introduce more new products late this year, although it did not disclose which models will debut.

Mazda is the fourth-largest Japanese brand in China, behind Honda, Nissan and Toyota.

Last month, Honda's sales in China rose 16 percent year on year to 143,400 vehicles, Nissan's deliveries increased 15 percent to 142,300 and Toyota's sales climbed 14 percent to 118,900.

Through September, Honda delivered 1.03 million vehicles, up 18 percent. Toyota sales for the period rose 7.9 percent to 960,400 vehicles. Nissan deliveries increased 9.8 percent to 1.02 million vehicles.
