Light-vehicle sales rise in September on crossover, SUV demand
Automotive News China | 2017/10/13

Light-vehicle sales in China increased 3.3 percent year on year to 2.3 million vehicles in September, thanks to sustained strong demand for crossovers and SUVs, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said Thursday.

For the month, deliveries of crossovers and SUVs jumped 10 percent to 971,000 vehicles, while sedan sales rose 3.7 percent to 1.16 million. But multipurpose vehicle sales plunged 25 percent to 165,900 vehicles and microvan deliveries fell 8.1 percent to 44,600.

For the first nine months, Chinas light-vehicle sales rose 2.4 percent from a year earlier to 17.2 million vehicles.

The growth of light-vehicle sales in China has been modest this year after an increase in the purchase tax for small vehicles on Jan. 1.
