VW Teramont
VW brand sales rise in Sept. as SUVs, crossovers thrive
Automotive News China | 2017/10/10

The Volkswagen brand's deliveries in China rose 7.5 percent to 310,500 vehicles in September on strong demand for crossovers and SUVs.

In its third month on sale in China, the Teramont seven-seat SUV generated sales of 8,600. VW also delivered 33,700 Tiguan crossovers in September, up 51 percent year on year.

Volkswagen did not provide sales data for other VW models, and Volkswagen Group has not released September sales results for the Audi, Skoda, Bentley and Porsche brands.

Over the first nine months, VW-brand sales in China increased 3.2 percent to 2.2 million vehicles.

While overall sales have been virtually flat this year, Volkswagen hopes to get a boost from a new generation of electric vehicles.

In 2018, VWs joint venture with SAIC Motor Co. will introduce two plug-in hybrid versions of the VW Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq. And in 2020, Volkswagen will roll out the I.D. Crozz electric crossover.

From 2018 to 2020, the Volkswagen brand will introduce five additional EVs and six plug-in hybrids in China.
