Ford deliveries dip on weak car demand
Automotive News China | 2017/9/8

Ford Motor Co.'s China deliveries edged down 1 percent year on year to 97,863 vehicles in August, dragged down by weak demand for Ford-badged passenger vehicles.

Last month, sales of Changan Ford Automobile Co., Ford's passenger vehicle partnership, dropped 8 percent from a year earlier to 69,002 vehicles.

That wiped out sales gains by the Lincoln luxury brand, imported Ford models and Jiangling Motor Corp., a joint venture that markets light commercial trucks.

Sales of Jiangling, which produces Ford-brand SUVs, multipurpose vehicles and JMC-badged trucks and light vehicles, rose 10 percent to 22,035 vehicles.

Lincoln, a recent entry in China¡¯s luxury market, continued its rapid expansion. Last month, Lincoln sales soared 105 percent to 5,240 vehicles.

For the first eight months, Ford¡¯s overall China sales fell 6 percent from a year earlier to 719,859 vehicles because of Changan Ford¡¯s 16 percent sales slump.

To revive sales, Ford is counting on an upgrade of the EcoSport subcompact crossover this year.
