Renault quadruples China sales in first six months
Automotive News China | 2017/7/18

PARIS -- Renault almost quadrupled its China sales year on year to nearly 36,000 vehicles in the first six months, as the locally produced New Koleos crossover enjoyed a strong launch.

The French automaker started producing the New Koleos five-seater in China late last year. Through June, the crossover generated sales of 21,000.

Renault is a relative latecomer to the region. Until last year, the company was content to leave China to partner Nissan Motor Co.

In 2013, Renault formed a 50-50 joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Group to produce vehicles in the central China city of Wuhan. Last year, the plant launched production of the Renault Kadjar SUV, followed by the New Koleos.

While sales have risen rapidly with the start of local production, China is still a minor market for Renault. In the first six months of 2017, China was Renaultí»s 14th largest market, just ahead of Morocco.
