Brilliance's Jinbei-brand minibus
Renault, Brilliance China to build commercial trucks
Automotive News China | 2017/7/7

Renault SA plans to form a joint venture with state-owned Chinese automaker Brilliance China Automotive Holdings to build light commercial vehicles in China.

To create the partnership, Renault will acquire a 49 percent stake in Brilliance China¡¯s loss-making minibus subsidiary, Shenyang Brilliance Jinbei Automobile Co., for 1 yuan ($0.15).

Hong Kong-listed Brilliance China announced the deal this week.

After completing the deal, Brilliance China and Renault will jointly invest 6 billion yuan in Brilliance Jinbei to recapitalize the company.

Of that amount, Brilliance China will provide 3.1 billion yuan and Renault will invest 2.9 billion yuan.

Brilliance Jinbei will use Renault technologies to build commercial trucks for the Jinbei and Renault brands, according to Brilliance China.

The partnership will be Renault¡¯s second Chinese joint venture. The French automaker also has a joint venture with state-owned Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor Corp. to produce passenger vehicles in the central China city of Wuhan.

Brilliance Jinbei, headquartered in the northeast China city of Shenyang, lost 669 million yuan last year, according to Brilliance China.

Aside from Jinbei minibuses, Brilliance China produces Zhonghua brand cars. Brilliance China, which is also headquartered in Shenyang, also has a 50-50 passenger vehicle partnership with BMW AG.
