GAC's self-driving car

GAC partners with tech firm Huawei to develop connected cars
Automotive News China | 2017/6/27

Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. agreed to partner with mobile phone maker Huawei Technologies Co. to develop connected cars and self-driving vehicles.

The two companies also will design electric vehicles and develop technologies for cloud computing, according to a deal signed between the two partners last week.

GAC and Huawei did not disclose more details about the project.

GAC, based in the south China city of Guangzhou, has recorded robust sales growth in recent years, thanks to its expanding lineup of crossovers and SUVs.

In the first five months of the year, the state-owned automaker delivered 792,400 vehicles under the Trumpchi brand, an increase of 33 percent from a year earlier.

GAC also operates joint ventures with Toyota Motor Corp., Honda Motor Co., Mitsubishi Motors Corp. and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

Huawei, headquartered in the south China city of Shenzhen, is one of the worlds largest manufacturers of communications equipment and smart phones.
